| Irish based Brian Cody is one of the countries most accomplished and hard working DJs. Hooked on the sounds of techno, trance and progressive house in the mid nineties, Brian’s knack for DJ-ing was as natural as it comes, bagging his first gigs at venues such as Temple Bar Music Centre and Eamonn Doran’s in his first few months of playing. He has appeared at a range of venues that include Tivoli, Club Mono, Switch, The Vaults, Tribecca and many more; as well as holding down a Wednesday night residency at The Pod’s Chocolate Bar between 2002 and 2003.
Over the years Brian has spread his talents not just into club DJ-ing, but also into radio presenting and music journalism. Holding down at one stage, three weekly slots on Dublin’s Nova FM, Brian’s “Groovebox” and “Blackout” shows were essential listening for followers of progressive and forward thinking house. His knowledge of progressive house is indeed vast, and he is a regular contributor of reviews, interviews and features to DMC Update and Resident Advisor and EQ-mag; as well as being one of the original crew of writers in the now sadly defunct Anorak fanzine.
Following Nova FM’s unfortunate closure, Brian now broadcasts his weekly “Groovebox” show on leading
Greek internet station Danceradio.gr, where his show with Chris Boshell goes out at 22.00 GMT
every Third Sunday of the month on
www.danceradio.gr
Featuring an upfront selection of music each month, the show contains an interesting blend of new music and guest mixes, as well as showcasing Brian’s own stylish spinning abilities. He has also been performing his own live DJ mixes in Ableton Live, which he now regularly incorporates into many shows.
Citing a gap in Dublin’s club scene, Brian along with some like minded individuals, set up Collective Music in 2004, which first kicked into action at Tribecca, with a succession of sell-out gigs that included guests such as Luke Chable and Slacker. With ambitions growing they quickly moved to their current home, The Vaults; where they set the precedent for the large scale multi-room events that now regularly take place there. To date they have brought over guests in a variety of genres including Steve Porter, James Holden, Chris Fortier, Desyn Masiello, Steve Gerrard, Dave Seaman, Alexander Kowalski, Gabriel & Dresden, Phil K, Marco Bailey, Cristian Varela and Ridgewalkers, as well as a host of leading Irish DJs and acts.
Brian has produced tracks for a number of years now and has just released some of his recent work on Omnis Recordings, with his remix of Parlange’s “Ocean Drive”, as well as another joint remix of the track with Omnis recordings label head Christian Boshell. Devoted and true to the cause, Brian Cody is an important cog in the wheel of the Irish scene, and his best days are still to come.
Brian Cody had his debut release Sunbaked out in Dec 2006 with remixes from Andi & Pangea and Johan Chatkowski.
